Midday at the Library

Time for the sun
to hide from the grey staircase.
Time for the faces
to dance on its steps.

White faces, black faces
Painted faces, veiled faces.

The staircase is now covered
with mouths
and ears.

But I
a mere observer
watch my vision
disappear into the centre.
