Mireille Eid

Exhibition: AlchemySydney College of the Arts Gallery- 11 – 27 July 2012.

“Hunter” brings into conjunctions moving images and textual narrative. The content and thematic dimensions of the soundtrack and catalog text were developed subsequent and in response to the film. This set up enabled one work to imply and produce others, which in turn altered the film’s space of reception and thematic focus. The collaboration was built out of implications drawn out of the film – its veiled subjects, setting, framing, editing, grain, temporality, chromatic intensity and ambiance. The adaptation of a tale by the13th Century poet Rumi, which forms the soundtrack, led to a textual meditation on the motif of the `language of the birds,’ enabling exchange between the human and the angelic. Aesthetic, semantic and ethical registers were thus brought into productive alignment, leading to an assemblage of emergent sense that eclipses the work’s component parts. A Mireille Eid & Michael Tawa Collaboration.
